Experimental Home Brew Prestige Class: the Clever Rake

Just messing around with ideas. So far I haven’t had a chance to test this out, but I probably will sometime in the near future.

Name: Clever Rake

Requirements:

Base Attack Bonus-  +5

Feats-  Dodge, Skill Focus (Bluff, Diplomacy, or Sense Motive)

Skills- Bluff +8, Diplomacy +8, Sense Motive +8

Hit Die: 1d6

Skill Points at Each Level- 6+ Int Modifier

Observant (Ex)- After one minute of sustained interaction with or observation of a target individual, a 1st level Clever Rake gains +2 competence bonus on Bluff, Diplomacy, and Sense Motive checks made against their target for 24 hours. After ten minutes, this bonus increases to +4.

Quick Wit (Ex)-  At 1st level, a Clever Rake can make a  Bluff check as a move action or a Diplomacy check as a full round action during combat.

Disarming Charm (Ex)- Using Diplomacy as a move action against a single target’s Sense Motive, a 2nd level Clever Rake can use their natural likeability to lower an opponent’s guard and gain a +1 bonus to hit for one round.

Bald Faced Lie (Ex)- At 4th level , a Clever Rake can use  Bluff to convince a single target that the odds are stacked against them. If the target fails their Sense Motive, they are then treated as flanked by the Clever Rake for one round.

Clever Dodger (Ex)- Once per round, a 5th level Clever Rake may roll a sense motive check against a single physical attack made by a known opponent. If the sense motive check is higher than the total to attack, the target predicts the attacker’s next move and successfully dodges the attack.

  1. Hmm – my thoughts:
    -For the requirements, drop the BAB down to +3 so a rogue or bard can qualify at 6th.
    -Disarming Charm: the benefits aren’t worth a move action. I’d change this to a swift action (like a quickened spell) and probably increase the bonus to hit to +2.
    -Bald-faced lie: Does this require melee, and what kind of action is it? If it’s a move action in melee, then this is basically the same as Improved Feint.
    -I would give it another +1d6 SA at 5th
    -I’d like to see another social related ability at 3rd and 5th. Using Bluff to replace a blown Diplomacy check, or maybe gaining a free Sense Motive check when within 5ft of a disguise, or you can always take 10 on social skills.
